As we move through each tutorial, our pedagogical principles and goals include the following:
- Maintain a transparent and accountable path of communication among students, tutor(s) and parents, using collaborative software, email and text as fits the situation.
- Provide consistent opportunities for student and student-teacher reflection, including the creation of custom note sets and quizzes or tests as needed.
- Tandem real-time practice with the actual subject-matter (ACT/SAT/AP/Math/etc..) along with ample time for pause and reflection to allow students to build mastery of relevant techniques along with the conceptual knowledge.
- Training students in independent research for high school and college courses, encouraging students to find their own answers when possible (it can help to have a guide and learn how to navigate those resources in an efficient, ethical and responsible way).
- Team-style meetings to plan out student schedules for the week or month, as related to coursework (and staying ahead of the lectures), extra-curricular commitments, and other tests/assignments.
As educators, we know that if we've done our job right, as time goes on, we are needed less and less.
